Death Note

December 22nd, 2008

I’ve just begun reading Death Note and like it but have, less than halfway through the first volume, just got that sinking feeling that I know how it ends. I’m hoping that, as with M.T. Anderson’s Feed, I’m incredibly wrong.

Still, I’m enjoying the book so far. Maybe Ohba will surprise me.

Well, I was wrong about the twist (and glad of it). The series turned out to have a much, much more complicated plot than I anticipated, and to be frank it started to lose my interest around vol. 6 or 7 then seemed to flag a bit till vol. 11. I’m not sure what to make of it after all–I see a lot of weaknesses in pacing and suspension of disbelief, but the plotting was meticulous and the cat and mouse game entertaining enough.
